Older computers generally run more slowly as they get older. This is usually caused by the hard drive having more clutter and corrupt or defective files. It is then necessary to tidy and repair the files to enable the PC to run more eficiently. The speed of the PC will then improve and also the hardware will be less stressed and should last longer.

What should a good registry cleaning package offer. First of all it should be inexpensive. The idea is to save money, rather than go to the expense of buying a new PC or replacing your operating system. Do not forget how time consuming those two options are as well. They can both set you back days. Time is also expensive.

The files on your PC can be priceless to you. Even if you do wish to transfer them all to a new PC you can still benefit by tidying and repairing the files first. You may then wish to use you original hard drive as a backup on the new PC or possibly run it as an external drive through a USB port. This gives you the advantage of keeping your entire archive and extracting every bit of value from it.

The actual range of problems fixed by the registry cleaner should be impressive. A list too long to summarize briefly, including ActiveX and DLL errors and a host of invalid fonts, links and startup programs etc. that can clutter up your computer. They are relics from the past use of your PC that can slow it down so much, yet be dealt with so easily.

If you do decide to buy a new PC, that will also benefit from a registry cleanup every now and then as well. However, for a few dollars you may be able to fix your PC problems in minutes, rather than days and better still, you may be able to avoid problems arising in the first place.

The vendor's sales pitch should not be your only guide. Read the testimonials. Are they detailed? Do they look convincing, giving specifics. Ask the software supplier directly some questions, using the contact us links on the website. Is there an FAQ page? Do they offer updates to the software? Is there an after sales support facility, preferably 24/7?

The package may have a basic specification for its application. This could include operating systems. Some just work with Windows, so if you use a Mac or Linux based computer check carefully. Also make sure you have enough RAM and disk space and your microprocessor is covered.

The vendor may offer a free trial. If so diagnose your PC and see what it can do for you. Is it user friendly. How many errors does it find on your computer? You may be in for a surprise when you find out how much is wrong and how cheap it is to fix. It may be a very cost effective solution to your computer problems.
