Some people seem to be able to persuade others to do almost anything, just by speaking with them. We all know those smooth talkers who seems able to sell snow to Eskimos.

How are these incredible persuaders able to do this?

Conversational hypnosis is one way of influencing others by simply talking with them.

Never heard of conversational hypnosis?

When I say conversational hypnosis I am not talking about putting people into deep trances like a certified hypnotist would do in his office.

What it is about is using language that by-passes someone's conscious brain and makes suggestions directly to the subconscious mind. Using the words of the conversation to directly communicate with the subconscious mind of the listener is conversational hypnosis.

One of the best at this is Robert Dilts. He has termed this use of language, sleight of mouth. Language is a map of our world, says Dilts. Further, no two people share the same world.

What he means is that every person sees the world in a different way, and they use language to both talk about their world (describe it), and to actually create their world.

So basically, when you speak about something in a certain way, you actually cause yourself to think of it in that way. For example, if you habitually express that you hate going to school, you will reinforce that feeling and even strengthen it. You are creating that reality by simply talking about it.

So what does this have to do with conversational hypnosis?

Here's the connection, in the same way you directed your mind to hate school, you can direct the minds of others to hate school as well by simply talking to them about how you hate school.

Now you know why attitudes indeed are contagious. Because the attitudes expressed in words direct the minds of the listeners to think the same way.

So if you hang around a group of friends who are constantly talking about how terrible and a waste of time school is you will all start to believe the that school is terrible and a waste of time and you will create that reality for yourself.

You see how powerful your words are? One reason they are so strong is the subconscious brain absorbs them like a sponge.

The subconscious mind is always aware of what's going on around you. In fact, that's were most of a person's thinking goes on. But the subconscious is easily influenced by what people around you are saying.

Someone's world can literally be changed by hearing the correct words. And what are these words? For that you'll need to read the next part of this article, or visit by blog to find out.
