If you have just received a phone call and don't know who it's from and want to, or need to trace it now you can.

It's been fairly easy to do this for landline numbers as the public domain holds these numbers - that means that you and me can get to them in one way or another. Sure it's often easier to use a paid service, but you can get the information you need for free.

If the number isn't available by looking online then you need to use one the reverse phone directories.

Cell phone numbers are not in the public domain and in fact collating and publishing databases of them is a very time consuming and therefore costly job, but some companies do it.

This information has become available for a small cost. The information is online on one of the few good reverse phone directories (and several not so good ones)

I always recommend one site in particular as it consistently gets good reviews online and from personal experience. As a result of researching for this article I have tried a few and believe me the information available varies greatly.

All you have to do is type in the number you wish to trace and within seconds you get all of the information that the database holds on that phone number.

Bearing in mind that most people need to trace a number because they have been on the receiving end of prank calls, a cheating spouse, threatening calls or similar then you'll realise the importance and usefulness of these directories.

Your peace of mind and security is all important and easily obtained by running a simple backwards phone number lookup.
